Snapshot review: Madera Breakfast and Brunch at Treehouse Hotel, London

After spending our wedding night staying at the Treehouse Hotel, it was time for breakfast at the Madera Restaurant which serves modern Mexican fare. Here’s a look at what you can expect - regardless of if you are a hotel or public guest.

We were escorted to a window table in Madera, just like our room the previous night this looked over Langham Place with great views on another stunning day.

Madera embodies the Treehouse spirit with an embrace of the natural feel - although with fake plants unfortunately. The windows of both sides of the restaurant make for an exceptionally bright restaurant which is what you need early in the morning.

Prices on the menu are aligned with what you expect for a city centre establishment with this kind of vibe. The only thing that did confuse me a little was the lack of guidance for hotel guests. We found that you could order more than one dish each which can represent outsized value against the GBP 20 charged per person for breakfast.

We first opted to get the Viennoiserie of pastry. While the pastries took the edge off our hunger, it didn’t wow and they were almost certainly not freshly made on site. Tiptree preserves are served with the pastries (big up Essex).

Alongside this, we opted for a Soya Latte and Iced Latte. Madera use high quality Workshop Coffee beans which reflected in the flavour of the drinks - I can’t stand weak coffee in the morning!

Onto the main dishes and up first is the Carne Asada and eggs which features a prime steak and chimichurri. This was a fantastic dish full of flavour and is exactly what you should have when visiting Madera - so much so I could easily have eaten another one (but I did restrain myself). The meat was tender and cooked to perfection while the eggs were served at the right level of firmness.

Onto the other dish we opted for which was less of a winner - the Madera Fry Up. In general, I’m not a big fan of fry ups despite being English and this wouldn’t have been on the top of my list to try. On the plus side, it included tasty sourdough bread, the same great eggs and an interesting charro beans which are far superior to baked beans. For more though, the sausage was not particularly tasty and turkey bacon despite being lean is just not my go to food thanks to the rubbery texture.

And onto ‘dessert’ we tried the waffles. These were as good as they looked with a nice selection of summer fruits around it and a syrup ready to be poured all over. As a sharing dish, these were great to finish the meal, and another coffee, with.

While I most likely wouldn’t pay the full price for the Madera Fry Up, I would almost certainly return to the restaurant again to eat the Carne Asada once again - it was truly a delight and I think pretty good value at GBP 20. If you are staying at the Treehouse or visiting nearby it is a no brainer to have breakfast here. Based on the quality of this offering, I could imagine lunch and dinner would also be a solid option to try out.
